Creativity and Fear Walk Side by Side

We’re Born to Be Creative

As human beings, we’re naturally inclined to be creative. We have many senses to help us perceive the world. We’re able to tap into curiosity, interest and inspiration. We’re divinely connected.

Our creativity can manifest in different ways. It’s an expression of who we are as human beings – our true self, authentic self, divine self. Creativity is when we have the possibility to express the individuality of who we are in the world. We can share our new ideas and unique perspectives with the world.

Hidden within everyone, including you and including me, are great treasures. These treasures are our talents, abilities and dreams. They prod us, coming into our thoughts often, to make sure we pay attention. They encourage us to share these treasures with others. They’re like our guides that lead us to what is meaningful in our life.

Bringing these treasures out into the light of day is not always easy! It takes work – hard work sometimes. We need courage, perseverance and resilience to overcome the challenges we encounter. We need faith – in ourselves, a higher purpose and the Divine.

And yet, we’re still propelled to move forward to respond to the longing, the desire to be creative. For we have a deeper knowing that the creative life is one that is more meaningful. It’s more fulfilling. It’s more expansive. And more joyful!

Creativity and Fear

Creativity and fear always seem to walk side by side. As soon as we start to be creative or even think about being creative, fear arrives like an unwelcomed guest. We become overwhelmed with self-doubt and self-judgment and feel like crawling under a rock and never being creative is the better choice.

But fear can only take control if we let it. Your creativity will almost always trigger your fear. Creativity is expansive, going wide and deep, entering into the unknown. Fear doesn’t like the unknown. It likes to keep you safe and comfortable.

Being creative requires courage. Courage to take charge and recognize fear when it arrives and yet still allow the longing for creativity to drive you forward on an adventure. Courage to find your own voice and share it authentically in your creativity. Courage to know that your creativity doesn’t have to save the world or be a masterpiece. It just needs to spark your curiosity and take you on an adventure where your own unique expression comes to light in the world.
